Self managed teams. When you hear the words “self managed teams” what comes to mind? Chaos, uncontrolled gen Y’s on Facebook or Instagram all day. Work not getting done. No goals, no achievement? Those are the words I have heard from managers who think self managed teams are the road to underachievement. They could not be more wrong.
Today, the workforce, your employees look for leaders that inspire them, motivate them, and hold them accountable for their actions.
I begin the new employee onboarding process (which starts at the first message to a cadidate) with three things:
- The expected outcomes for the next two-three years for the company.
- The expectation that they will, at some point, fail. That failure may be a tool, a process, a new idea, etc. or it may be that they just overcommit to a goal. Under my leadership, you cant get fired for failing, as long as you make it know so others can learn from it. You can get fired for failing and not telling anyone.
